Hawaii center blocker Patrick Gasman kills UC Irvine center blocker Scott Stadick, 13, in the first set of an NCAA men’s volleyball game on Saturday at the Stan Sheriff Center in Honolulu. Gasman became the first four-time selection of all Big West first team conferences today.
The Hawaii Men’s senior volleyball team placed four players on the All-Big West first team, with seven Rainbow Warriors recognized by the conference today.
Senior mid-blocker Patrick Gasman became the first four-time selection of any Big West first-team conference when the selection was announced today. This year’s senior colleagues Rado Parapunov and Colton Cowell as well as Junior Libero joined the first team with 14 players, Gage Worsley.
Parapunov and Worsley formed the first team for the third year in a row, and Cowell received the second consecutive honor for the first team. Despite being listed as a junior, Worsley ended his UH career this season.
UH runner-up Jakob Thelle and newcomer outside of batsman Chaz Galloway were honored, and outside hitter Spyros Chakas was one of the eight members of the all-freshman team.
Gasman leads the conference with a hit percentage of 0.497 and takes second place in blocks per sentence with 1.35.
Parapunov leads the conference in terms of total kills (244) and kills per set (4.52), fourth in blocks per set (0.94) and fifth in hit rate (0.367). Cowell is sixth in the conference with 3.12 kills per set while hitting .314 this season. Worsley is second in the conference with 2.30 digs per set.
UC Santa Barbara outside batsman and Punahou graduate Ryan Wilcox was among the five honorable mentions.
No. 1 Hawaii (15-0, 10-0 Big West) will be the top seed in this week’s Big West tournament at the SimpliFi Arena in the Stan Sheriff Center. The Warriors will face UC San Diego or Cal State Northridge in the semi-finals on Friday.
