The National Weather Service in Honolulu issued a flood report for the Big Island by 8:15 p.m. Monday evening.
At 5:08 p.m. the radar indicated heavy rain in the Kohala area of the Big Island. It was raining at a rate of 1 to 2 inches per hour.
The consulting locations include Kailua-Kona, the village of Waikoloa, Pu’uanahulu, Puakō, Kalaoa, Waikoloa Beach and Mauna Lani.
Avoid streams, drainage ditches, and low-lying areas affected by flooding. Rain and runoff also cause dangerous driving conditions due to pond formation, limited visibility and poor braking.
Do not cross fast flowing or rising water in your vehicle or on foot. Turn around, don’t drown.
