Hawaii batsman Stijn van Tilburg receives the honour of volleyball participant of the week

    Hawaii’s Stijn Van Tilburg slammed one point behind Josh Tuaniga of Long Beach state in the second set of a 2019 Big West Conference Championship game on April 20 at the Stan Sheriff Center.

Hawaii senior batsman Stijn van Tilburg was named Sports Import / AVCA National Player of the Week in men’s volleyball today, the first of his career and the third for a Rainbow Warrior this season.

Top-ranked Hawaii has the most national weekly awards for 2019. The other two went to the junior across from Rado Parapunov.

Van Tilburg was named Most Valuable Player in last week’s Big West tournament after helping the Warriors to their first ever conference title. He had nine kills in the UC Irvine round on Friday when he knocked down 25 clean kills in 46 attempts and hit .543 in Saturday’s five-set win over Long Beach State.

The victories gave Hawaii first place in the NCAA tournament.

This is the 24th national weekly for the Hawaii program.
