Hawaii Pacific Health’s mobile vaccine clinics in Oahu and Kauai will offer booster vaccinations starting Friday.

Hawaii Pacific Health said it was offering the booster vaccination following the recommendation of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices on Friday, advocating the use of a third dose of the COVID-19 mRNA vaccine for immunocompromised individuals.

The CDC’s approval follows Thursday’s decision by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration to change emergency approvals for Pfizer and Moderna vaccines, according to HPH. However, there is still no recommendation for recipients of the Johnson & Johnson vaccine.

According to the HPH, those who qualify for the booster vaccination are those with moderately to severely compromised immune systems, such as organ transplant recipients, those undergoing cancer treatment, or those diagnosed with conditions that cause an equivalent weakened immune system to have .

To receive the booster vaccination, people do not need to provide evidence of a medical condition, but will be asked to certify their condition.

“It is preferred that individuals receive the same branding as their two previous doses, but not required,” HPH said in a press release. “Each beneficiary must have received their second dose at least 28 days before the third dose.”

Oahu

>> 9:30 am to 4:00 pm Saturday at Kalani High School

>> 9: 30-16: 00 Sunday at Waipahu High School

Kauai

>> Today 12 noon to 3 pm in the Hanapepe Neighborhood Center

>> 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Saturday at Wilcox Medical Center

>> Saturday 12pm to 3pm at the Hanalei Neighborhood Center

In Kauai, vaccinations are only available for the clinic appointments listed above. Appointments are encouraged on Oahu, but walk-ins are also accepted. To schedule an appointment, visit HawaiiPacificHealth.org/COVIDVaxSquad.
