Hawaii’s Tri Bourne, Jake Gibb sweeps Italy in Olympic seashore volleyball pool sport

HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) – The pair of Hawaii’s Tri Bourne and four-time Olympian Jake Gibb defeated Italy in straight straight sets in their opening game of the Olympic beach volleyball pool game.

Bourne, a native of Oahu, replaced local boy Taylor Crabb after Crabb withdrew from games after testing positive for COVID-19.

With just two complete trainings before the competition, Bourne and Gibb dominated the sand and defeated Italy in two straight sets at Shiokaze Park in Tokyo.

Bourne finished the match with two aces, 21 attack points and five digs.

The couple will now hit Switzerland early Wednesday morning, with a repeat of the action being broadcast on NBCSN at 10:00 p.m. CET.
