Kirby Offshore Marine Hawaii can be closed, 72 folks laid off

Kirby Offshore Marine Hawaii LLC has notified the state Department of Labor and Labor Relations that it will close at the end of the year and lay off 72 employees.

Headquartered at Pier 21 in the Port of Honolulu, the company announced on Friday its intention to shut down under the state’s Dislocated Workers Act, which gives employees 60 days’ notice.

Kirby operates a fleet of multiple double-hull tankers chartered to utility companies, local petroleum retailers and large oil companies, and sells heavy fuel oil and refined products in the Hawaiian Islands. The Hawaii operation also provides refueling services for ships in the Port of Honolulu.
