HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) – A woman convicted of a fatal crash on the Island of Hawaii in 2018 was convicted.
Prosecutors said 46-year-old Paulette Paulich was found guilty of second-degree negligent homicide and escaping from the crime scene.
The crash killed Mark Brown.
His family was present on Wednesday when a judge sentenced Paulich to 10 years for fleeing the scene and five years for negligent homicide – serving all at the same time.
Paulich was also fined over $ 1,800 in compensation.
“Mark Brown’s family have suffered tremendous loss from the actions of the defendant in this case, and our office expresses its deepest condolences to them,” said First Assistant Prosecutor Stephen Frye.
“We hope that this condemnation will bring family closure and some satisfaction that justice has been done and that Mark’s memory lives on.”
According to the police, inattention was one of the reasons for the accident.
