HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) – A man who drove a Toyota Tacoma was killed in a single vehicle rollover on the island of Hawaii Saturday night.
Island of Hawaii Police said the man was traveling north on Highway 130 when he lost control and slipped off his right shoulder. The truck then overturned and the driver was later found unresponsive in the vehicle.
It happened near Kaluahine Street in Pahoa around 9:20 pm
The police said it had been raining at the time of the accident and the road was wet. Police haven’t determined whether drugs or alcohol were a factor, but investigators say the man moved too quickly and was not wearing a seat belt.
The driver, not yet publicly identified, was taken to Hilo Medical Center and pronounced dead at 12:25 p.m. on Sunday. An autopsy is planned.
This is the 16th traffic fatality in the Island of Hawaii in the year, compared to 13 during that time last year.
